Maciej Jan Skóra passed away on Friday, March 13, 2026, at the age of 62. He was born on April 10, 1963, in Warszawa, Poland.
Maciej was a man of deep creativity and vision. He possessed a unique talent for seeing potential where others saw nothing, often bringing complex projects to life with his own hands and ingenuity. Whether he was working on a technical challenge or a personal craft, his ability to transform ideas into reality was a testament to his sharp mind and tireless imagination. He also found great solace and joy in the natural world; he was a true lover of nature and held a deep, quiet compassion for animals.
However, Maciej’s life was also defined by a long and difficult battle with alcoholism. This was a struggle that deeply affected his path and, over time, created a profound and painful distance between him and the people who cared for him. While he often pushed away those closest to him, his family acknowledges the man he was beneath the weight of his addiction—a man of immense skill, creative fire, and a gentle spirit for the living things he encountered—who faced private demons that eventually eclipsed his ability to maintain the bonds of home and family. He is survived by his children and his grandchildren, who carry with them the complicated memories of a father and grandfather whose life was marked by both remarkable potential and profound loss. His family hopes that in death, Maciej has finally found the peace and clarity that eluded him for so many years in life.
Service Information A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, April 10, 2026, at 11:00 am at Our Lady Queen of Peace Polish Catholic Church (2111 7 Ave NE, Calgary). Following the mass, the burial of his ashes will take place at the Rocky View Garden of Peace Cemetery. The date of the service marks what would have been Maciej’s 63rd birthday—a day for his family and friends to reflect on his journey, the talent he shared, and to seek their own healing and peace. In recognition of his lifelong struggle, the family suggests that donations be made to a local addiction recovery center to support others facing similar battles. Niech spoczywa w pokoju. (May he rest in peace)
