Alina Mazur, beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2026, in Calgary, Alberta. Born on March 16, 1940, in Rozdzalow, Poland, Alina’s life was a vivid tapestry of dedication, talent, and spirited joy that left a lasting imprint on all who knew her. Alina spent over fifty years in Poland, where she honed her skills as an experienced business accountant and blossomed as a talented professional couturiere. Her passions continued after she moved to Calgary, where she applied her sewing expertise with grace and precision. She became an indispensable seamstress in her community, a role that perfectly complemented her involvement as an active volunteer with the Canadian Immigrant Woman’s Association since 2009. Alina was a devoted member of the Sewing, Crafts, and Seniors groups, enriching the lives of many with her generous spirit and dedication. Her commitment to cultural heritage was equally profound; she was a long-standing member of the Polish Canadian Seniors Club and served with distinction as a board member. Beyond her artistic talents and community service, Alina was an avid and award-winning gardener, whose garden reflected the care and affection she poured into all facets of her life. Alina’s love for dance and celebration was also a defining characteristic. She was a passionate dancer and cherished member of the „Young at Heart” dance group. Known for her impeccable style, she never missed the opportunity to don one of her many elegant hats, always well-dressed for every season and special occasion. Whether celebrating Halloween, the Calgary Stampede, or St. Patrick’s Day, Alina’s vibrant festive spirit brought joy and warmth, lighting up every gathering with her ever-present smile and positive outlook.
Nature was another affinity close to her heart, particularly the Rocky Mountains, where she embraced the beauty of the outdoors as a passionate hiker. This love of the natural world was only one facet of her wider zest for life.
Alina was deeply loved by her family. She is survived by her daughters Ela Rysz and Malgosia (Marcin) Skrzynski, along with her grandchildren Maciek, Ania, and Kuba. She also leaves behind siblings Marian, Lucia, and Henia in Poland, as well as many relatives and friends who mourn her loss both in Canada and her homeland. Among those who preceded her in death are her husband, Boleslaw, who passed away in 1988, and her brother Ryszard, who died in 2015. The community will gather to honor Alina’s memory with a funeral Mass at Our Lady Queen of Peace (2111 Uxbridge Dr NW, Calgary) on June 20, 2026, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., followed by a graveside service at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens (24223 Township Rd 242, Calgary) from 1:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Prior to the Mass, there will be prayers and viewing in the church on Saturday, June 20, 2026 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Alina’s life was a beacon of love, artistry, community, and the joy of living fully. Her legacy endures in the hearts of all who were privileged to know her and in the vibrant communities she enriched with her presence.
She will be remembered with great respect and affection.
