October 25, 1930 – Jablonowo Pomorskie, Poland

March 21, 2025 – Calgary, Alberta

With great sadness and heavy hearts, we announce that Wanda Teresa Konicki (nee Kuhn), beloved wife, mother, and babcia passed away on Friday, March 21, 2025, with family by her side at the age of 94 years. Wanda was born in Jablonowo, the youngest of four children, two brothers and one sister. She was very outgoing and enjoyed playing a variety of sports. Her youth was disrupted by the horrors of the Nazi invasion of Poland, the loss of her beloved brother Stefan, and the German occupation. After the war, she completed technical college and worked as a chemist in an industrial laboratory in Poland. She married Tadeusz (Ted) in her hometown on June 20, 1959, three weeks after they met in church during the Corpus Christi procession. In February 1960, Wanda rejoined Ted in Calgary and lovingly spent the next 60 years by his side until his passing on June 24, 2020. She was an active member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Polish Catholic Church and, together with her husband, modelled a life where their Polish roots, strong Catholic faith, and family values were cherished and celebrated. During the early years in Canada, she learned English, cultivated her beautiful garden and raised her two daughters. Once the children were a little older, she worked at Chalet Pastry and Chocolate where her knowledge of German proved useful. In her forties, Wanda decided to study bookkeeping and subsequently worked at Lewis Stationery. Wanda loved to visit with family, friends, and neighbours, and had the extraordinary ability to recall details of conversations many years later. Wanda was always happy to share words of wisdom or give sound advice in an effort to always help others. As an avid gardener, she took great delight in sharing the fruits of her labour, particularly her sought after raspberry juice and plum jam. After Ted retired, their travel plans took them to several countries. They both enjoyed watching and analyzing tennis matches on television. Her memory will be cherished by her daughters, Barbara (Pawel) and Anne (Ralph); and her granddaughters, Alexandra (Devon), Stefanie (Georges), and Vitalisa (Denver). She is also survived by her sisters-in-law Mirka and Balbina, and numerous nieces and nephews in Poland and Germany. She was predeceased by her parents, Oswald and Zofia, brothers, Stefan and Henryk; and sister Barbara. The family would like to thank Wanda’s neighbours, particularly Joe, Ita, and the boys, who were always ready and willing to help in any way they could. For the past 18 months, Wanda resided at Verve Aspen Woods and Aspen Heights, where she received compassionate care and made wonderful friendships. A sincere thank you to the doctors and nursing staff at Foothills Hospital, especially Dr. Workun, Dr. Kundert and Dr. Mutch, and Dr. Zhu at the Rockyview Hospital, for their dedication and commitment to seeing that Wanda received the very best care.
