ś.p. Wojciech Kubacki

Wojciech (Wojtek) Kubacki, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully at Chinook Care Centre Hospice on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at the age of 75.

Wojtek was born on July 25, 1950, in Kielce, Poland, to Stanisława and Zbigniew Kubacki. As the elder of two sons, he developed a lifelong love of the outdoors, enjoying sailing and other pursuits, and proudly served in the Polish Armed Forces. In 1975, he met Elżbieta Wojnowska, whom he married in 1976. Together they built a loving family and raised two sons, Szymon and Wojciech Jr. In 1982, Wojtek emigrated to Canada with his younger brother, Roman, and was soon joined by his family in April 1983. He embraced life in Canada, especially in Calgary, where he found great joy in the vast natural landscapes. He spent many happy years hiking, skiing, sailing, fishing, and exploring the outdoors. Trained as a machinist, Wojtek worked for various companies in Calgary, but his true passion was woodworking. Soon after purchasing the family home in Beddington, he undertook the project of replacing the carpet with hardwood flooring that he made himself from scratch. After hundreds of hours of hard work, the Kubacki family had a new, durable and beautiful floor. He later started his own hardwood flooring business, occasionally working alongside his younger son. Known to many as someone who could fix and build anything, Wojtek became a trusted handyman to friends and neighbours. From crafting furniture and building a garage to making birdhouses, he approached every project with pride. He was always ready to lend a hand — especially to his sons — whether it was helping with repairs, traveling across Alberta and British Columbia to pick up vehicles, or supporting family moves, including to Vancouver Island. Wojtek shared nearly 50 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Ela. He was a devoted husband, a caring father and father-in-law, and a proud grandfather to three cherished granddaughters: Ione, Olive, and Ivy, who brought him great joy. He was also an active member of Calgary’s Polish community and generously volunteered his time and skills at Our Lady Queen of Peace Polish Catholic Parish. Wojtek will be remembered for his strong work ethic, craftsmanship, kindness, and unwavering dedication to his family and community. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.

The Rosary will be recited at Our Lady Queen of Peace Polish Parish, 2111 Uxbridge Drive N.W, Calgary on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Prairie Sky Cemetery.
